The Inked Nouveau Tarot
Filled with bold line work and blooming colors, the Inked Nouveau Tarot deck by Arcana
Ebbe was inspired by American traditional tattoo styling, mythology and folklore from
around the world, and art nouveau era color palettes. Specific mythological influence
came from Greek, Japanese, Norse, Celtic, and American tales.
This deck revamps the
original art from the Rider-Waite deck for a striking recreation with a splash of modern
fantasy. Even the card names display a reimagining of ancient terms. Only two card
names have been released to date; The Dancers (previously The Lovers) and The
Hanged-One (previously The Hanged-Man.)
Tarot: A Brief History
Is it fortune-telling or is it fun? Tarot decks have been around since the 15 th
Century, reportedly originating from Italy and spreading throughout Europe. Each new
region adapted the deck to reflect its cultural influences, religion included. Many decks
are made of the same general components that vary for each incarnation: a major
arcana made of 22 cards representing various universal concepts, and a minor arcana
of four suits, each with ten cards. The minor arcana often explores the four elements
that signify the journey of the mind, body, and soul.
Today, we can find just about any type of adaptation of this ancient card
game—just type your favorite show or artist into a search bar with ‘tarot’ attached and
you’re sure to discover just that. Cards don’t predict the future. They simply provide a
formulaic outcome based on logic and universal truths. Some tarot themes can be quite
dark and dramatic, but the key is to remember that life is a spectrum of experiences.
Tarot reflects the human experience and provides opportunities for reflection using the
greatest art our minds can create.

About

Arcana Ebbe (they/he/it) is a queer disabled artist in the realm of the digital world. From drawings to witchy crafts, their creative magic knows no bounds. Their shop, The Artistic Witchery, has accessible tiers with multiple rewards on both Patreon and Ko-Fi that include short stories, digital downloads, and commissions, to name a few. The dedicated nature of their work reflects the ten years they’ve spent perfecting their style to be body inclusive and proudly, loudly queer.
Whether writing or drawing, he weaves gorgeous worlds that appeal to the senses. He plans on selling more commissions, creating a full tarot deck, and publishing a book. Nothing can stop Arcana from expanding his creations—except perhaps a migraine. But even talented artists like him need to rest!
When they’re not doodling, they love participating in queer events and spending time with their cat, Elvira.

FATE FRESA

From the depths of the void rises a chaotic cryptid by the name of Fate Fresa
(he/she/they/fae). This artisan of many trades dances their way through misery and into
the strangeland of ink doodles splattered with shimmering colors. While their writing
reflects the sensual nature of the macabre, their art reflects a lustful yearning for the
most basic, trashy components – typically featuring downright raunchy themes of sex,
attraction, and dysphoria. They’ve been friends with Arcana for several years,
connecting through compassion, patience, and creativity. With ten years of professional
writing under their belt, they’ll assist Arcana with future blog posts and announcements.
